wesley-church-lightingThanks to Heritage Perth the façade of Wesley Church will soon be lit up at night by a lighting design that will shed eco-friendly light on the historic building.

Lighting the exterior of the church is the first façade lighting scheme to be implemented by Heritage Perth under its ‘Light Up the City’ project. This project has been developed to create an imaginative and sustainable façade lighting scheme for significant buildings within the city.

Using energy efficient equipment, Light Up the City will provide a spectacular lighting show that brings important buildings, such as Wesley Church, to life at night, helping reaffirm Perth’s title of ‘City of Light’.

Modern lighting technology makes it possible to light a building using a fraction of the energy previously required for the same purpose. With the assistance of the State’s Sustainable Energy Development Office the scheme is intended to have the minimum possible environmental impact. The lighting specification developed gives up to 500% efficiencies over conventional façade lighting systems.

A grant from the City of Perth, has enabled Heritage Perth to fund the development of the lighting specification to be used for each façade project and fund the equipment and installation costs for the ‘showcase’ scheme at Wesley Church.

A Two-Part Project

wesley-church-2Those who regularly use the intersection between Hay and William Streets will have noticed the hoardings that have gone up around Wesley Church recently. Behind these hoardings two projects are running concurrently:

The first involves re-landscaping the area to the front and side of the church to improve its amenity and aesthetic value. This work will widen the busy Hay Street footpath, whilst leaving a pleasant area around the church which can be used for the many outdoor activities that take place there during the year.

The second part of the project is the installation of the new façade lighting.
