Swan River Saga

by richard.offen
August 29th, 2011

Agelink Theatre, together with St George’s Cathedral, is presenting the celebrated play, Swan River Saga, by Dame Mary Durack, for four performances only on 15th and 16th September.

The one-woman play, which gives a wonderful insight into the life of an early West Australian pioneer, Eliza Shaw, will be staged in the historic setting of the Cathedral. The role of Eliza is played by Jenny Davis in a production directed by Jenny McNae OAM and accompanied by music from the period played by violinist, Kathryn Schinnick.

This evocative piece of theatre traces the migration of the Shaw family from Leicestershire in the UK to a bleak encampment on the dunes at Fremantle and their subsequent acquisition of a land grant on the Upper Swan at Belvoir where they established a farm.

An art exhibition inspired by our beautiful Swan River will accompany the performance, with the opportunity of winning a painting.

Performances:

Thursday 15th and Friday 16th September at 1pm and 7.30pm

Prices: $30 standard, $25 concession, $16 schools (matinees)

For online bookings click here (transaction fees apply)

Unreserved seating: Tickets available at the door
