Following the great success of the inaugural Walk & Talk Series last year, Heritage Perth is very pleased to announce the continuation of the program in 2015.
Perth has an incredibly rich history going back over 40,000 years. This fact possibly makes Perth the oldest city in the world with a continuous history of habitation. To help you discover this fascinating and long history, the free lunchtime guided walks and talks will be held in different locations around the city and focus on different elements of our heritage: cultural, built, economic, spiritual and environmental. It is a great opportunity for people who want to discover more about Perth, its past, its future and the link between the two.
The walks and the talks will generally last no longer than an hour, so it is possible to pop out in a lunch break for a ‘Heritage’ hit! All events are FREE, but bookings are required.
The first talk, ‘Connecting People, the Law, and the Parliament’ will be held in the Parliamentary Library at Parliament House on 18 February and is repeated the following day.
Have you ever wondered about the origins of the Western Australian Parliamentary system, the purpose of the Black Rod or the Mace? There are three institutions situated in the centre of Perth that are rich in history and serve critical functions in our society and civic life, namely our Supreme Court, the Perth City Council and the people’s Parliament.
This talk will give people the opportunity to learn more about the history, roles and functions of Western Australia’s judiciary, local government and Parliament.
With a tour of Parliament House included participants will experience the Chambers at work, appreciate the operations of this important institution and the grandeur of this heritage building.
Places are limited so to book please click here.
