Heritage Perth Heritage Day was designed to provide a unique opportunity for people to explore and enjoy sometimes hidden, often curious and always interesting places in the centre of Perth completely free of charge.
The theme for the first ever Heritage Day was ‘Living Stories’ and focused on people and the places they created, reflecting on the importance of the city’s heritage to our quality of life. From the amazing and extraordinary to the unique and quirky there were walks, talks, tours and activities celebrated the people, buildings and events that make Perth great.
Thousands Flocked to the City Centre
Thousands of people flocked to the city to take part in the many varied activities that were available as part of Heritage Perth’s inaugural Heritage Day on 15th November, 2009.
The Piccadilly Cinema was packed to near capacity for a screening of the enchanting 1919 silent movie, ‘The Sentimental Bloke’, which was heightened by the incredible live piano accompaniment of Perth musician, Len Brauer.
Over 800 people took advantage of the beautiful early summer weather to take a leisurely strole around the stunning gardens of Government House, whilst others viewed the fire fighting appliances of yesteryear at the FESA Education and Heritage Centre.
The day concluded with the launch by the Lord Mayor of the new ‘low energy’ facde lighting on Wesley Church, which is the first project to be completed under Heritage Perth’s ‘Light Up the City’ scheme.
