The State Library of WA is running a series of digital stories on the Cultural Centre Big Screen. The tales bring to life material and stories found in the State Library. You might see ‘The Entombed Miner’. This tale is set near Coolgardie over 100 years ago, when miner Modesto Varischetti was trapped down a flooded goldmine for nine days. See the story of his daring rescue unfold on the big screen, involving deep sea divers, a speeding train and a future US president.
Also showing will be the story of Australia Aviator pioneer, Charles Kingsford Smith. Using material taken from the State Library of Western Australia’s collection, this film maps his life, some of his courageous journeys and his links to Western Australia.
