Perth Rocks

Thanks to budding amateur geologist, Norman Harrison, Heritage Perth now offers a leaflet to help you take a fascinating self-guided tour to discover more about stone used to construct many of the city’s finest buildings.

The leaflet outlines the diversity rocks, stones and masonry materials used in many of our heritage locations.

Mainly based on Murray Street and St George’s Terrace, the trail is not intended as a comprehensive review of the urban geology of the Perth, but more to give people an insight into the wide diversity of building material used to create our city. Whilst concentrating on the use of locally occurring rock used in the construction and decoration of the inner city, the guide also includes reference to the use of rock from other parts of the world.
