Roll up! Roll up! Roll up to the Museum of Performing Arts’ latest exhibition and lose yourself in a trove of trinkets and treasures from the wonderful world of entertainment.
On your left is a collection of lustrous silk programmes. On your right is Nellie Melba’s feathered fan. Straight ahead lies a pair of dancing slippers from the 1850’s. Underfoot, if you’re not careful, is the hem of Lady Bracknell’s afternoon wear.
You’ll see gifts from Katharine Hepburn, Debbie Reynolds, Marcel Marceau and Irina Baronova (and a Princess!). You’ll espy artworks by Kristian Fredrikson, Louis Kahan and Elizabeth Durack.
You’ll even glimpse Edgar Medcalfe’s insignia for The Order of Australia!
Not to mention the outfit Bill Kerr wore in the film Razorback.
And whichever way you look there are luminously beautiful theatrical portraits by Perth’s supreme photographer, Frances Andrijich.
The Museum of Performing Arts is situated in the basement of His Majesty’s Theatre, Hay Street and is open Monday - Friday, 10:30am - 3:30pm.
