Wild Life Show

1 July 2016

Wildlife Show

Perth Town Hall, 28 June to 20 July 2016, 9.30am – 4.30pm, Free

This City of Perth exhibition celebrates the popular Wild Life Shows of the 1950’s and 60’s, organised by the Western Australian Naturalists’ Club and Gould League WA, which entertained and educated generations of Western Australians about our native flora and fauna. This history exhibition explores how thousands of WA school children visited the shows, where they witnessed naturalist Vincent Serventy and natural history showman Harry Butler give demonstrations on how to eat Bardies (Witchetty Grubs), and members of the WA Speleological Society demonstrated caving techniques from the rafters of the Town Hall.

To register for special children’s workshops go to wildlife-show-childrens-workshops.eventbrite.com.au. There will also be a special Western Swamp Tortoise Day on Wednesday 13 July, from 10am-12 noon, when Robert Boyd who collected the swamp tortoise as a schoolboy will be reunited with the specimen he gave to the WA Museum in 1953, as well as a live specimen from the Perth Zoo. All welcome. Contact [email protected] or (08) 9461 3333.
